Even small fires can be daunting for someone who has never faced them and never used a fire extinguisher. CERT members are trained to recognize different fire sources and the types of extinguishing agents that can safely and quickly be used to smother a fire. Hands-on training in the use of chemical extinguishers gives the CERT members the confidence to face small fires that can safely be fought in a few seconds.

Residents encouraged to use ‘Ready SB’ before, during, and after emergencies

The new App “Ready SB”, provides residents with multiple resources that will assist them in preparing for a disaster. Ready SB is now available as a free download from the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store and can immediately help residents prepare themselves for emergencies.

Description: The American Red Cross Shelter Fundamentals course is a basic level course that introduces the guidelines and procedures for setting up, running and closing a shelter during a disaster.
